It was a beautifully warm start to May this year, which meant the perfect day to go down to the Beach Lawns for Westons summer tradition – Bike Night.
Weston Bike night has been happening every Thursday night in the summer months for certainly as long as I have lived here. Its a brilliant evening of just like minded people showing off their bikes and other similar vehicles, and raising money for charity.
Each biker that parks up on the lawns puts a pound into the pot for the Royal British legion. And when this happens weekly for six months of the year it is easy to see that this raises an incredible amount each year, something everyone involved is proud of.
What really struck me was the variety of different bikes on display. My Knowledge is rather limited, I know Harley-Davidsons are a major bike brand. And I am aware of the Royal Enfield bikes vaguely, as well as Yamaha. I also know you can get Dirt bikes, which I understand to be more for racing, much like you would find on Weston beach later in the year. But this is as much as I know, or understand.
I quickly developed a preference for the older-looking bikes, many of which were Harleys. The different shapes within the vehicles just makes them look cool.
Looking at the few scooters around tonight, all I could picture is them zipping around the big European cities, perhaps with some sort of ice cream provision attached, and I’m not quite sure what that says about me.
Perhaps, this simply says that I had seen the ice cream van on my first walk past. And I really did want a Mr Whippy. My favorite being sherbert covered, and this was a perfect treat for the end of such a warm day.
